We wrote yesterday about Facebook's recent attacks by the media and startup competitors. We also explained that there are no true competitors in the field. We were sitting around the dev shop last night for after work drinks and spitballing all of the alternatives...or rather the aspiring alternatives/competitors.

Diaspora and Altly are the ones boasting the most right now. Perhaps they have something amazing behind the curtains, but for all of the press, people are forgeting how dwarfed they are by the social network. They are seeking to be an alternative to Facebook. We don't think that is enough. They have to be better and rethink the way we know social media just as Facebook did to Myspace. As the night grew later and later we wanted a side by side comparison to show the mountain ahead for them. We came up with this infographic (with some help from our designer):
